The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) continues to pressure the government to remove the special tax on petrol amid soaring prices at the pumps.

In a bid to increase Property Tax compliance, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, will be holding a series of town hall meetings right across the island, to sensitize citizens and to answer their questions.

Finance Minister Audley Shaw will on Tuesday next week announce the adjustment to the property tax regime following a special meeting of Cabinet on the fiscal measure on Wednesday.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) says that it has assessed the recent tax package presented by Government and is commending the move towards indirect taxation from direct taxation.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday maintained the Government’s hard line on its 2017/18 tax package, which has been severely criticised by the Opposition and has elicited strong disapproval from key players in some sectors of the society.
