Samoa’s prime minister has continued his criticism of the leadership of the country’s largest church, as a dispute over income tax grows increasingly heated.

Samoa’s prime minister isn’t ruling out seizing the assets of church ministers who refuse to pay income tax. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said the refusal by ministers of the country’s largest church to pay tax will not be tolerated.

The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa says their defiant stance against the government’s taxing of ministers won’t change in the near future.

The Samoa government appears to have made a compromise in their ongoing efforts to implement a new law that will tax all church ministers. The Congregational Christian Church hit out at the law, saying ministers paying income tax went against its faith and it wouldn’t pay.

Samoan government leaders will discuss the Congregational Christian Church’s opposition to paying tax at its meeting on Wednesday, the Samoan prime minister says.
