On May 2, 2014, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV consultation1 with the Republic of Latvia.

A top International Monetary Fund official pledged Monday that the organization will take a deeper look at the harmonization and administration of taxes among Asian counties, as well as the taxation of energy sources such as coal and natural gas.

The International Monetary Fund has has called on policymakers to rethink tax systems as a way to tackle growing inequality between rich and poor. It says tax policy enactment often fails to reduce income disparities.

The second round of technical talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund concluded in Dubai on Wednesday. Sources said that IMF expressed reservations over country’s low tax collection.

The government has submitted an ambitious but politically tough plan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for abolishing exemptions on income tax, sales tax and Customs duty and imposing Rs500 billion taxes in the next three years.
