The Ghanaian press on Thursday focuses on the understanding reached between government and religious bodies on taxation.The Daily Graphic said that following a meeting between President Nana Akufo-Addo and some religious leaders in Accra, religious leaders have agreed to pay tax on their income-generating activities.

A committee is likely to be formed to study ways in which government can tax aspects of the churches’ commercial activities. This was one of the outcomes from a closed meeting between the president and some prominent church leaders at the Jubilee House in Accra, Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey reported.

A former tax official has said Australia should revoke the non-profit tax status of the Catholic Church in the country, due to widespread clerical sex abuse, which was detailed in an extensive report released last year.

It is unacceptable for churches that failed to protect children from sexual abuse to still have charity status nine months after the royal commission delivered its final report, a former assistant taxation commissioner has said.
