SAO PAULO – The Brazilian government is considering lowering taxes on fixed-rate debt investments to discourage demand for local bonds whose yields are pegged to short-term interest rates, Valor Econômico reported, without saying how it obtained the information.

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) is working on recovering the money owed by different parties to the government. Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed said several people owe money to the government.

The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry, today announced the Rudd Government would rewrite the tax law’s running balance account provisions to provide the flexibility to manage tax debts and entitlements more efficiently and in a way that is more useful for taxpayers.
